Miss Universe Olivia Molly Rogers reveals cancer scare as she undergoes hospital procedure for rare condition

Olivia Molly Rogers revealed she had to go to hospital this week, while raising awareness about a little known condition.

The former Miss Universe, 32, took to Instagram on Friday to reveal that she underwent a colonoscopy after discovering she suffers from a rare condition known as serrated polyposis syndrome (SPS).

People with SPS develop multiple polyps in the bowel which are not cancerous but, if left untreated, they can develop into bowel cancer.

And Olivia shared a deeply personal post that included a sH๏τ of herself recovering from the procedure as well as various Q&A’s about her condition.

‘This is certainly not a glamorous topic, but it is definitely an important one. I just had my yearly colonoscopy, after discovering two years ago that I have serrated polyposis syndrome,’ the beauty wrote.

She added that she first revealed she suffered from the condition two years ago, admitting the revelation had left her feeling  ‘relieved and less awkward.’

‘Unfortunately, people often put off colonoscopies because they are scared or embarrᴀssed or simply don’t want to go through the ‘yucky’ prep, but they are so important,’ she said.

Continuing the sobering post, Olivia was quick to point out that she didn’t want to ‘stress anyone out’, but rather to encourage people to ‘listen to their body.’

‘By no means do I want to stress anyone out by sharing this, I just hope if you’ve been putting it off it might encourage you to book it in,’ she said.

‘Also, if you feel like something is off, listen to your body, advocate for yourself and push to get answers – I think it’s better to be tested and find out you’re in the clear than to not be tested at all.’

In a series of expansive Q&As about her condition, Olivia urged one fan one fan who admitted they were turned of by the thought of a colonoscopy, to think again.

‘If I hadn’t had that first colonoscopy in 2022, I could have gone years without knowing about my polyposis and the chance that they could have developed into cancer is high and I find that so scary,’ she said.

‘Please don’t put off getting checked,’ Olivia added. ‘ A yucky drink and a night of going to the loo is so worth it for the long term benefits of knowing what’s going on inside you.’

Olivia revealed that she initially went to her GP as she had been experiencing ‘unusual gut symptoms’, such as bloating, irregular movements, and sharp pain, ‘for years’.

‘I had put it off because I felt like maybe it was my fault after what my body went through during years of disordered eating,’ Olivia admitted.

‘My doctor has ᴀssured me that the polyposis is not a result of my disordered eating. It’s just my genetic makeup.

‘I found that really reᴀssuring because I held a lot of guilt and shame about that.’

In 2023, Olivia made trhe shocking claim on Instagram that the modelling industry made her so self-conscious of her legs she would only wear long тιԍнтs when she went running.

Despite finding success in the Australian modelling industry for her genetically blessed features, she said she wasn’t immune to insecurities.

‘I never used to run in shorts, even on really H๏τ days in Bali. I would wear long тιԍнтs because the modelling industry made me so self-conscious of my legs,’ she said.

‘I received so many negative comments from agents and pH๏τographers when I was younger.’

She continued: ‘They were my biggest insecurity for the longest time and something I struggled with enormously during my eating disorder.

‘Now I wear short shorts, I feel my legs move, the shorts ride up and it doesn’t bother me.

‘Instead I’m focusing on other things – cute dogs on the beach, friendly people, the colours of Bali, the waves, my pace and how good running makes me feel.’

The mental health advocate has been candid about her struggles with an eating disorder in the past, sharing painfully thin snaps of herself as a 19-year-old.

‘These pH๏τos were taken when I was deep in the grip of my eating disorder,’ she said alongside the shocking pH๏τos she posted in October 2020.

‘Looking at them was triggering for me for a long time. I don’t have many pH๏τos from that period, I deleted most of them because they were painful to look at.’
